Du 7 septembre au 13 octobre 2018, TOPO présente en vitrine l’installation CULTURE, une intervention artistique du duo Et, tu Machine formé d’Alexis O’Hara et Atom Cianfarani. À la veille du projet de loi fédéral C-45, en vigueur le 17 octobre 2018, légalisant la consommation récréative du cannabis, les artistes transforment la Vitrine de TOPO en une chambre de culture.
CULTURE cherche à célébrer les racines psychédéliques et insoumises de cette plante tout en examinant les paramètres juridiques dans lesquels elle sera bientôt contrôlée par le biais d’une loi de 152 pages détaillant ses modes de distribution et de consommation.
Poteuses assumées, les artistes examinent l'espace liminaire que le statut de la marijuana occupe actuellement et les schismes sociaux que la légalisation entraînera. Bien que pro-légalisation, elles sont préoccupées par l’opportunisme des sociétés privées de production et de distribution en collusion avec l’État. Impliquant la Bourse de Toronto en tant que performeur pour cette installation, le duo investit son cachet dans des actions des producteurs canadiens de cannabis Canopy Growth Corporation (TSE: WEED.TO) et Hydropothecary (TSE: HEXO.TO).
CULTURE vise à stimuler une conversation autour de l’acte et l’image de la consommation du cannabis dans le mainstream de la société contemporaine. Exposant de façon flagrante les paramètres labyrinthiques du projet de loi, Et tu, Machine offre une attraction rarement vue: une plante de cannabis presque prête à moissonner.

From September 7 to October 13, 2018, TOPO‘s Vitrine will showcase CULTURE, an artistic intervention by interdisciplinary art duo Et, tu Machine (Alexis O'Hara and Atom Cianfarani).
On the eve of the legalization of the recreational usage of cannabis, coming into effect on October 17, 2018, the artists transform the TOPO Vitrine into a grow room.
CULTURE aims to celebrate the psychedelic and rebellious roots of this plant while considering the legal parameters by which its distribution and consumption will soon be controlled, as described in the 152 pages of Bill C-45.
Avowed potheads, the artists examine the liminal space that the status of marijuana currently occupies and the social schisms that legalization will reinforce. Although pro-legalization, Et tu, Machine is concerned about the opportunism of corporate production and distribution companies in collusion with the state. Engaging the Toronto Stock Exchange as a performer for this installtion, Et tu, Machine has invested its artist fee in shares of Canadian cannabis companies Canopy Growth Corporation (TSE: WEED.TO) and Hydropothecary (TSE: HEXO.TO).
CULTURE aims to stimulate a conversation around the action and the image of cannabis use in mainstream contemporary society. In flagrant disregard to labyrinthine parameters of the bill, Et, tu Machine offers a rarely seen attraction: a flowering cannabis plant, ready to harvest.
