LopLop

Million

TOPO announces the destruction of one million digital works, between Monday, August 22nd, 2022 at 5pm and Saturday, September 3rd at 1pm. The destruction of the works, programmed by LopLop at a rate of one per second, will be visible continuously, day and night, in TOPO's exhibition window on the first floor of 5445 de Gaspé. This audacious proposal is a merciless metaphor for the programmed obsolescence of our digital tools.

The public is invited to this unprecedented inauguration of destruction on Monday, August 22nd, 2022 at 5pm in front of the display. A convivial meeting will follow at TOPO, in its 6th floor studio, where an interactive projection will also be presented featuring animated creatures learning to swim, such as the batrachians of the future that have disappeared from our lakes and rivers.

This act of destruction is the result of an editorial thought stemming from a long experience of programming in digital creation by the founder and programmer of LopLop, Alain Bergeron.

"As an artist-programmer and in the name of an incorporated company generating artistic work, in the face of this delirium of enthusiasm and technological decadence, it seems liberating for us to create innumerable digital works and to program in each of them its obsolescence. Thus, during 12 consecutive days, we will create a million works that we will destroy a second later, thus pointing out the end of posterity in art, leaving place to the discovery of the infinite present." This intervention is part of LopLop's residency at TOPO, from August 15th to September 3rd.
