ART & NFT : Virage ou Mirage ?

TOPO is pleased to invite you, on Saturday, March 5th, from 4 to 6 pm, to a discussion about the new Holy Grail of digital art buying: NFT (Non Fungible Token). This free and open meeting will take place via Zoom. Artist Johann Baron Lanteigne will present an overview of his work and research on NFTs, in dialogue with Olivia McGilchrist, a multidisciplinary doctoral artist who has explored the process of registering and recording digital works in the mind-boggling world of blockchain.

NFTs raise many questions in the world of art marketing. These digital certificates attest to the uniqueness and ownership of a virtual object, and they seem to allow anyone to enter the art market without going through galleries. Although NFTs allow some to earn impressive sums of money, access to their world remains complex, as the blockchain has its own codes.

The reality of an artist who has gone through the process of entering the NFT market, Olivia McGilchrist, will be put in parallel with that of a more seasoned artist in this field, Johann Baron Lanteigne, who will expose his observations on the milieu. He will also introduce us to his Tangible Data project, a multidisciplinary art project in which the artist documents the influence of the emerging NFT art market.

This virtual discussion is part of the closing of the 7th edition of TOPO's multiplatform bootcamp. Each year, a cohort of 10 artists with diverse practices are accompanied in the development of digital creation projects.
